Huh? I thought it was obvious: when I hit ~ during filename
completion I want to jump to my home directory.
But that has been the default for I don't know how long. If there is
a string /~ in filename completion, everything before it is ignored in
the result. Similarly with //. It does not get magically zapped away
and made inaccessible, but it does not become part of the ultimately
chosen file name.
OK, I finally get it. Even hitting TAB get's me to $HOME and /.
Sometimes enlightenment is just one keystroke away.
