There are a few free (or virtually free) public news servers available
that might be able to help you out there. I used to use Individual
(http://news.individual.net/) because my ISP's news server at the time
was somewhat lacking. I've since changed ISP and no longer need to
use Individual. Also, Individual has changed from a completely free
service to a paid service. But at only 10 euros a year, it's not
exactly expensive :-)
