You are in a newsreader group. Perhaps my hint above was too
subtle. Asking the above is more appropriate in the comp.editors
group.
Oh Troy, you are over here now! I did not even thing to see if there was
a new follow assigned.
Oh I am just a "chatty sort of a person", in general, Troy. Yes, I could go
to the appropriate newsgroup for that answer if I really need it. I am
still not sure if I am going to keep vim for Windows or not. Maybe so. I
got enough subtle tips in here such as making it work where I want it to
for me to start trying to use it and if I do, I will go to the editor
newsgroup to fine tune it. Had I not gotten those few subtle hints in here,
I might have given up entirely already. Thanks for the point of direction
my friend.
Ok, well I'll give you a gentle push in the right direction.
Create a file called _gvimrc . Yes, that's a "_" not ".". Save
it to your c:\documents and settings\ohmster folder and put
something like this in it:
set guifont=Lucida_Console:h10
set guioptions-=T
set lines=50
colorscheme wombati
Oh that really worked but I do not have wombati so I used tore and it
looked nice. Made the window bigger and nicer too. But now I do not have
comment coloring on or any of that stuff any longer. At first I did but
after writing and saving that file, the syntax highlighting is gone. Oh
pooh!
_gvimrc contains settings relevant to gvim only.
In that same folder you can save a file called _vimrc that
contains all of your normal vim settings straight from .vimrc.
"wombat" is the colorscheme I am using at the moment with dark bg
and light text. It wasn't one of the default ones.
Look at ":h colorscheme" or while editing _gvimrc I type
colorscheme [tab][tab]...
I tried editing the file _gvimrc and where it says colorscheme I can hit
tab all I want and nothing happens other than the cursor tabs over.
etc through all them til I find one I like.
Crap, now I need a complete _gvimrc file in order to get back coloring
and all that. Where can I get one from? Can I try to copy my .vimrc over
from Linux and will it work with gvim or is the syntax different?
I did copy over .vimrc and named it _vimrc and there were maybe 1 or 2
things that need to be changed for win32, it is working quite well now
with nice colors. I get cyan for comments instead of the dark blue which
I would prefer, but it is a lot better now. I thik I did have dark blue
comments, same as in Linux, until I made this _vimrc file. Any idea of
how to get the colors back in command line vim just like in Linux
(Although this is not bad and I can live with it if I have to.)?
Somebody please send me a decent _gvimrc file for Windows now because I
want my syntax highlighting on and all of that stuff. Can I just use
..vimrc for _gvimrc or will that not work?
Oh, I just copied over my .vimrc file and named it _vimrc to
"docs and sets" in Windows and now my vim in a command shell is all
colored. But the colors are not quite right, instead of the dark blue
for comments, I get a cyan color, don't want that at all. Will have to
figure this out.
This is super cool! vim in Windows and it is not only useful, it might
just work full power just like in Linux! Thank you Troy.
