Quite honestly, I think doing the above is great in theory, but
in practice is probably a couple of orders of magnitude more
difficult than generating a band limited signal to begin with.

funny, my interpretation of the OP's first question:

somehow became, "how do i generate a nice bandlimited sawtooth?" (or
whatever); which of course was not really the quesiton at all, but it
is still an interesting one (to me...)

so i looked

and found this paper:

, which basically looks at integration of pulse trains. seems rather
straightforward, but requires a final DC filtering stage...

i also saw these plugins:
http://blop.sourceforge.net/

which i have yet to check out really.

maybe there are some other ideas...?
