I searched on his name, found that he owned the apartment building he
lived in in California. Tisdale isn't a common name, so I looked for
others. I forget the connection, but I deduced brother, cousin, or
something, and got a brush-off. A few days later, I was contacted by a
lawyer who told me sternly that the guy I called was not responsible
for E.Bob's calumnies, and anyhow, not to worry, the family would see
to it that E.Bob would stay on his meds from then on. Scary, no?
Wow. Very, very scary.

oh, you wimps.

so the family has a goofy adult member that they sorta keep a lid on.

big deel! doesn't make me incontinent.

feedback coefficients of magnitude much, much larger than 1 is what
makes me pee my pants.

I find it scary that knowing only his name and the consortium he no
longer worked for, I could find where lived, at least some of the
property he owns, and two family members. Without getting up from the
computer and without spending any money.

A contributer here was coming from Australia to a meeting near where I
live, and we agreed to meet for a brief chat and refreshment. He emailed
me a day later with an aerial photo and a question: Is this your house?
It was. I found my house on Google Maps. It shows my camper van in the
driveway.

That sort of thing is trivial today, given the improvement in search
engines and online maps.

Back then it was a bit harder: I think I used Google to find an
alternate email address for you, one that contained your ISP's domain
name.
I used your ISP's coverage area to get the general location, and an
online phone book to get the address. I don't recall how I turned
that into map coordinates though.

Allan
