How do I apply a ramp-down filter without affecting the symbol?

I am designing a QAM64 transmitter with waveshaping. There is a requirement
to
trim down signal levels to zero in the final symbol. What are the methods to
do so?
Previous version of the design used a linear ramp-down (saw-shape) which
scales
down the final symbol to zero, but it affects the final symbol badly.

Are there any better methods?
