Hello All,
Would anyone be so kind as to describe the technical operation of Caller
ID
and the Blocking there of????
CLID is an FSK signal sent between the first and second rings. It is a
1200 baud Bell 202 signal.
A blocked caller ID will never be displayed because the destination
central office obeys the command from the remote office to not deliver
CLID data.
However - if you want to pay for the call you can always get an 800
number with realtime delivery of ANI as CLID. Then people CAN'T block
their number, and you get the actual billing telephone number.
Ok, I understand the above and the way it is supposed to work. Thanks for
the response. But then please explain the following.
I have 3 dialtones/numbers that have CLID Blocked by my provider (verison)
and when I call a particular business (car dealership) my phone number is
displayed on their phone for all lines.
I am calling/dialing a local number (not a 800) but the dealership is using
another provider than verison.
I placed a trouble report with verison on all three lines and was told that
CLID is not 100% and that it is up to the other provider to not display the
CLID but some don't respect the block.
I am trying to understand or (accept) that this is normal. Any additional
comments appreciated.
It's likely that the car dealership is either using an 800 number, or
they're using a carrier that doesn't obey the do not display flag.
