The digital set stations are wired on the 2nd pair. Polarity must be preserved.
Have you ever heard a reasonable explanation of why Intertel decided to use the 2nd pair for their phones? It creates so many problems when installing in locations with older wiring where only one pair is available.
Panasonic did the same thing, but it was so that they could be
backward compatible with all the Proprietary Analog phones. In the
origianl TD digital series, you can plug a single line set on the
first pair, a ditital set on the second pair, and an analog set on the
first two pairs :-) To top that off, from the origianal 123211D
system, each phone used 3 pairs, in case you had Off Hook Voice
Announce on certain phones. That pinout got carred to the TD and TDA
series, so if you use 8-port hybrid cards, you just plug and P(r)lay.
But Panasonic did the "right" way with their DBS series. I haven't worked on anything newer from them.
And my favorite is the ATT Merlin system which, if you wanted OHVA, required 4 pair cabling. UGH!
Take care,
Rich

Who is going to have a customer go from a 123211D to a TD-1232 to a
TDA200 in a new building. Yes, he's getting new phones.
