Those things are encoded in the VIN. Again, see a prior posting with
the parts of the VIN.

Unless you personally know all the encoded codes then you still need to
verify.

For instnace, what manufacturer is ZFF? To most people that means absolutely
nothing; they need to LOOK IT UP against the ISSUING SOURCE.

Come on don't be so obnoxious. There are lots of places to look them
up.

Also, some confusion in the VIN encoding I think.

Model Year - 'K' has two meanings 1989 and 2019, so in 2020 we have a lot of
confusion over all those cars still kicking around like my ferrari
testarossa built in 1989 and as its in mint condition sat in storage I
should hope she still is in 12 years time.

And you really think they will be manufacturing the same model in
2019?

So if I move from Texas to New York State, all I need is the
dealership stock number?! How would you guarantee that everyone is
using the same dealership stock number? That is silly -- it is like
thinking your local speed dial numbers on your personal cell phone are
universal.

That's not what I'm saying and it's what I'm trying to get through into your
thick skull.

The Stock Number validates with that single dealership, you know - the
dealership you actually go to (there address is on the advert), afterall,
how on earth would you buy the car otherwise? Actually, I will ask the
question; if you see a car advertised at a specific dealer in New York would
you really go to a completely different dealer in LA? When you hunt around
for a new car do you do it by VIN or do you use model, make, year built
etc... like most normal folk?

1) Record stock number on a bit of paper
2) Go to the dealership who is advertising the car (it was on the advert
btw)
3) Ask the dealer to give you the details of stock number xyz; that is
his stock number so you are verifying it back to the issuing source (no
different to what your saying with VIN, except it's an internal
verfifcation)
4) He gives you the VIN which you can then ring your trusted source and

he gives you A VIN. Ther is no way for you to know if that is the car
advertized or not. By stock # you cannot be sure when the dealer says
" sorry we just sold that one" that he's telling the truth. YOu have
an extrodinary amount of trust in car dealers.

determine if the car is legit; correct mileage; correct colour; not been
written off etc...
