The origin of the problem is structural bioinformatics. The real story
is about proteins - residues and their physical properties.
My system is Linux with PostgreSQL. I am allowed to install DB2 for
free (educational version), but I am not an expert and I am afraid of
it. My machine is PIV 3.2GHz, 2GB RAM
On the other hand I am not satisfied with my current database - for
simle queries described in my first post. I have tables:
* necklaces
* strings
* beads
* spots
* neckl_prop
* strings_prop
* beads_propert
Is it really the fastest solution for my problem (for queries like
"which beads are green and cubic-like and have at least 5 brown spots
and belongs to a group of beads defined by other properties?"
