12.5.3: index rebuilds useful?

hi,

im wondering if it makes sense in terms of performance and to regain
space to rebuild indexes after some weeks of inserts/updates and
deletes or if thats a waste of time?

we're running sybase 12.5.3 on solaris / ultrasparc
