Re: Need simple FTP explorer

Just launch "my computer", and in the address bar type in the ftp address.
You get a message about how windows can't access the folder, and them simply
go file->logon as. A nice form with a logon prompt appears (and, if you
check save the password, you not have to enter it again)

The reason why I use the above is because it available on every computer.
And, it supports drag and drop and the folder really looks just like any
other windows folder. So, the "trick" here is to NOT launch the web browser,
but simply use the windows explorer. This also works well in vista...

Albert, technically your completely correct, and obviously I can't
disagree with your personal experience. However this is where
"quality" becomes an issue. Over many years I've tried using Windows
Explorer, IE, WSFTP, and others. I've found that the difference
between a good FTP utility and a merely adequate one is found in how
they handle dropped connections, reconnection, and resume.

FTP servers and our connection to them will vary due to distance,
network traffic (local and general), brand and version, and many other
factors. They are most susceptible to error or disconnect with large
files and/or large numbers of files or directories.

FileZilla is VERY resillient in this area and will reconnect and
continue transfers no matter how unstable the server. If you watch
the file transfer you will be amazed at how often a connection breaks
and needs to be automatically resumed. Windows Explorer will stop on
almost any error, not reconnect, and you need to manually retry and
grab your data in pieces. It was these sorts of issues that drove me
to find something like FileZilla and I've never looked back. Sure I
do the occasional one-off transfer from Windows Explorer, but I do all
work on our website and all other regular websites through FileZilla.

YMMV/HTH/T
