Peter:
Get off of D3NT if you can. If you can't move to D3/Linux. If you can't
then find D3NT v7.4.7 (of whatever release doesn't break your needed
functionality).

Bill,
I'll fight and kill for your right to freely express an opinion, no matter
how stupid
With an attitude like that, the first guy who tried to rub two sticks
together to get a little warmth would have given up and we'd still be
living near lightning strikes
I develop on a Windows Server 2003 standard running 7.5.2 and so far we
haven't rebooted since we installed it. Our "production" machine is
running 7.4.1, but the only time I've seen it down in 6 years is when the
office takes a power hit.
All our data is in FSI and we use the hell out of indexes. It's the only
way to grab large amounts of data in sequence quickly. They're great for
filling a pull-down box with data without having to read records.
Next SAPUG, the first scotch is on you.

I can only second that opinion re FSI, reboots and also the power hits. I
actually do not have authority to reboot servers at a couple of my clients.
In fact yesterday I discovered that one is a blade server in Melbourne when
the IT guys rang to ask me to cover an upgrade of D3, all their stuff is
SAP - my client is in Sydney and the IT manager in Melbourne was shocked to
discover recently that he was paying for a Telstra router and my login out
of his budget for the last 5 years. I have not physically visited a couple
in several years - 8 to 12 hour drives are something I avoid these days.
I am in fact looking to change my use of indices, I think my remark was
misunderstood, I have used btrees extensively since 1982 when we had
Microstars and if my memory serves me Btrieve on CPM/MPM. The Pick
implementation does not handle cross file relationships which I use
extensively however I have taken account of that and am redesigning my file
approach so that I can use them within the one file and take benefit of the
low level stuff. I will however make sure that they are kept simple as my
recent testing did reveal some holes in D3 and as I said U2 was none too
flash in some areas. I would probably have done it years ago but Ross
Ferriss solution Superb worked so well that I followed my first rule of
programming "If it aint broke don't fix it". I love that idea re pull down
boxes, thanks for that saves me working it out for the new interface.
