Dawn. No - they're looking for you or Tony or Mark and I don't think
they are going to se those resumes.
Bob, thank you kindly for including me among respected colleagues.
Not only am I geographically undesirable way over on the west coast
(even though my family is in Chicago) but in addition to my full-time
presence in various MV forums (I say, that's a joke, son) I have a
small but growing business which compels me to think very hard about
closing down and going to work for anyone. Now if some company wanted
to buy my company, me, and our various projects (MV and otherwise)
then, well, anyone is for sale at the right price. ;)
Knowing the client I have to laugh at the direction the thread is
going. It's amazing how many people are suddenly qualified candidates
when $$ signs are posted.
With regard to the requirements of the position, you will note that my
prior description of the position matches Laura's latest notes. The
client is looking for highly qualified people to represent their
company well - it's no slouch position and they're obviously not
offering a salary for a slouch. Good luck and contratulations to
anyone who may qualify.
T
Tony, Dawn, et al
And poor Laura most of all.
As everyone has noted and hinted but not said out loud, the company
iis fairly well known. The pond that you are fishing in is also fairly
well
know and with the possible exception of some lurkers there just isn't
anyone
here taking the posting very seriously. There is no need to pay
substantially over scale. "Scale" is from around 70k in the deprived and
depressed Florida area to maybe 85 or 90 in NY and perhaps Boston. The
skill set is virtually ubiquitous on this group with the possible
exception
of the bubbly part.. Most of us had that sort of talent on our staff in
our
younger days simply because if we had not we would not have stayed in
business. We got that talent on the staff by building it, not by hiring
it.
When we tried to hire it we soon found that we had just hired a future
competitor.
However, while the fish you seek is rare you will never catch it with a
dry hook - so keep fishing. And I have enjoyed your tongue in cheek
responses. If we had a formal membership we might invite you to be an
honorary contributor.

Oh Bob,
I think you over estimate the height at which you colleagues noses
reach into the air. Many people have started to take this posting very
seriously- as they should. The company is a legitimate player, the
salary is real- $100K-$135 base plus 10% bonus and benefits and while
it may be substantially above the going rate for a 20-year veteran of
MV technology (which I doubt) it may also be that you should have
enlisted the services of someone like myself to negotiate your last
comp package. Or maybe it's just that YOU should take the posting more
seriously. The benefits of my approaching this group is that you do
get to cut through most of the BS and get a realistic idea of exactly
what the company is looking for and what they will pay to get it. As
for the fishing metaphors - well done- as being with Big Fish
Recruiters it's usually 11 am before I get one of those. Sorry to be
such a "snapper" but the "poor Laura" really got my goat.
I know that many of you own your own businesses and while I would love
to have your resumes for this position I am a realist and am more
focused on who is slightly junior to you that deserves a good
opportunity. You all know these people- not me. Well at this point I
have met a few but not enough. As added incentive if you refer me a
candidate that is hired I will pay YOU a commission.
Glen, I am checking on the specific technology about which you
inquired. And I think Dawn was right on about whether or not being
bubbly is always the best bet. This position is markedly less focused
on sales than I originally thought. They just want someone that can
articulate what is going on with the technology to their clients and
in turn take the client needs and translate them to the development
team. TGIFF
OK, maybe it's "Lucky Laura" because as a recruiter you can hold these
problems at arms length and being Friday means you are going to enjoy a
couple of days doing something else. As for help negotiating compensation,
it has been over thirty years since I have seen a W2 form. But I've issued
a few in those years and I still think I would start with a moderately
experienced, bright, energetic - but perhaps not bubbly - journeyman (or
journeywoman) and build from there. And current wages for such really are
in the 70 to 85 range. Anyway, you're still welcome to fish - goat or none..

Thank you Bob, I really do appreciate your advice and your welcome
into the community. I wish that Friday meant a departure from these
responsibilities for me but most candidates are easiest to reach on
the weekends and since that's when most money gets spent it always
gets me thinking about my paycheck- or lack there of in this case. I
am glad that these problems have not been your for the past 30 years
and also that my client is willing to pay more that scale thus making
my job easier- or so it would seem. I am always fishing, Bob, always.
Take care and thank you again for being such a sport.
