Gentlemen,
This position is available to work remotely for the right
candidate- so no move is necessary. The irony of an MV guy not
wanting to work in cubes, by the way, makes me chuckle. But you
would be free-range in this position anyway. Perhaps that makes it
a bit more worthy of follow up for some of you. One of you? Forget
the acronyms.
How can someone work remotely and be innovative with a business
they never see and/or participate in personally.
And I was directed to this site with fair warning about who
usually posts- but also that it was probably the most experienced
and knowledgeable congregation of MV professionals I would be able
to reach. I agree it has been fun. Fun and informative.
I'm not sure I'd go that far. CDP is a decent sampling of the MV
community but it's far from "the most experienced and knowledgeable
congregation of MV professionals." There are many top-notch gearheads
that don't have anything to do with CDP for various reasons. Stop by
the OpenQM group and the U2-Users list on your way around the block.
Also, givewww.intl-spectrum.coma scan. There's plenty of webinar
presenters and tech article submitters to browse
through.www.pickjobs.net is also a good resource to review. I have my
own "fellow geek list" from the community, but times have changed and
many of them have moved on to 'greener pastures' or changed careers
completely. All I can suggest to you is to spell out precisely what
you have with regards to MV software and integrated components. You
should also state what you expect the developer to be able to do
immediately and also additional things with some paid training if
needed. The reason I say that is that most of the developers I know
with the skills to do it all right now are already part of a
successful development firm, or a stand- alone VAR that won't do
full-time, or a well-paid in-house developer with no incentive to rip
up roots. There is the occasional floater, but you have to be
diligent in your search and also be willing to compromise on any
facet of the job requirements.

I'm still a bit confused about what anyone would actually be
doing. :) It sounds similar to what I've been doing for the past 11
years @ All-Spec, but potentially in a different industry.

Thank you for the additional resources- that is extremely helpful of
you. I have requested some additional information from my client as to
what the specific technical functions of this position will be as I am
sure it goes without saying that the primary purpose of a sales
engineer is to cater the software to specific clients, thus developing
business and generating profit. As an ourtsider I would wonder how one
couldn't do this remotely vs. internally. As long as one is
communicating with the customer it seems one would be successful. At
any rate I will check the other sites out and may even venture to post
when I get the details I am seeking on the job. Thans Again, Laura.
Isn't "sales engineer" an oxymoron? ;)
