Laura, the thing our friends here don't understand is why a sales guy
would need so much tech experience, particularly with MV where we tend
to provide solid business solutions without a ton of "tech-speak".
Why do I let this type of statement get my goat? To carry on the Jane Austen
theme, "condescension" which was a compliment in those days, is no longer,
nowadays. If you don't get the humor, don't presume it's beacause we don't
"understanding" what Laura posted.
So when it comes to selling an MV
solution people are confused about why the sales guy would need to
know so much, as this indicates an incorrect approach to the sales
process - and that will earn you no small amount of grief if you don't
recognize it in your position as a placement specialist. But for this
position it _is_ critical that the candidate have a solid technical
background as it's a bit more technical than sales.
Au contraire, it's been a source of great puzzlement to me that sales people
*do not* seem to know what they're selling. But, fwiw, several excellent
salesmen I have known have widely subscribed to the philosophy that they can
sell anything without having to know a thing about it.
On a humorous note, you mentioned "MV Enterprise Software". I don't
think you meant "MV Enterprise" which is actually a brand name in this
market, but "Enterprise-Scale MV". This is a part of the learning
curve.
Ha Ha. Rest easy, Laura, it's still correct according to the rules of
English grammar. "Enterprise" modifies "Software" and "MV" modifies the
compound "Enterprise-Software"
Chandru
Thanks for the concession points.
You have all been more than helpful with this endeavor. After reading
Tony's post I will leave the job description the same and make sure it
is available on our site and some others. Since it was piecemealed
from other previous descriptions I am not sure where the original text
came from but it seems to be all-encompassing enough to generate some
results when people are searching.
Now that we have established that this position does call for some
technical prowess, let's talk about who would entertain making a move
into a pre-sales role. Who out there in your network would dare to eat
a peach?
Laura
