Hi Art
The Linux desktop is of no use outside of a particular organisation. In
other words if one is communicating with the outside world then you run
Microsoft. If you wish to hire people who know what to do then you use
Microsoft. If you just want to save money on a word processor then go for
it with Open Office which I use on this particular machine.
AS I said in my earlier post the tremendous things that one can do on the
new Vista desktop with gadgets and Office such as Scanning and markup or
sending diary updates through Outlook just put it light years ahead. As for
the Carousel on ASP.net, wow. Guess what it is the wow factor that gets new
sales,. We know that formatted green screens are probably just as
productive for data entry work but they don't sell. When young tyros review
a division;s applications and an excellent application is not Windows they
look for a replacement. Silly perhaps but fact.

Art, do you have a point to make there? You're not passing up the
opportunity to make a statement but you're not saying anything.
I've said this repeatedly in the past in responding to Peter, and didn't
feel like rehashing the details. In summary, a linux desktop is a very
viable alternative to a windows desktop, and in my opinion, significantly
better than the Microsoft product in many respects, including (especially)
reliability.
