Re: D3 & Linux time does not match

OK, I'm inclined toward the daylight saving time idea. The D3 Ref
says this about the "set-time" command:
----
The 'u' option ... Updates the hardware real-time clock, as well as
the system (software clock).
NOTE? On D3 UNIX systems, this does not change the UNIX time. It only
creates a difference. The new time is preserved (even if the system is
rebooted) until another set-time command is issued. If the UNIX date
is changed, the D3 date is changed, too. The D3 implementation does
not use the daylight savings UNIX algorithm. Therefore, the time has
to be adjusted manually when daylight savings goes into effect.
----

I don't quite understand that "it creates a difference" part and it
might be key to this problem.

I have no idea how this is happening but I'm guessing the Linux clock
is changing after midnight or something, D3 gets the new time, then
NTP kicks in for Linux and gets the real DST, but somehow D3 isn't
informed. This might happen if Linux is rebooting automatically
after-hours for some reason.

I really don't like that theory because it doesn't make sense that
this is only happening on one system and not everywhere. So I'm
hoping someone else can propose another theory that's better. :)

Tony,

As Richard indicated in an earlier post, we're running D3 Linux 7.5.0
on an Intel clone. No AIX, & no virtual machine. Plain ol' standard
linux/D3 install.

Hiya bud - I think I know the answer to this but are you running Linux
in a virtual machine? I thought you guys were running AIX over there.

If it is a virtual like MS Virtual PC then I've seen this problem and
I have a script to fix it. Just let me know.

I'm having a problem getting d3 and linux time values to match and to
stay matched.

For example: current linux time=10:30AM
I do a tcl command... set-time 10:30:00 (u

I then verify that both time values match...then next day I do a tcl
command... time & d3 time is exactly one hour behind linux
time....linux time is right...d3 time is wrong

I am using ntp.

Thanks,
