To go to the original question, as Chandru already mentioned, ARRAY(0)
came to light in the context of how to handle best the oversize
situation when you do a MATPARSE. You either discard it, stick it in
the last element of the dimensioned array or save it in a new variable
which, for the sake of simplicity, you call it ARRAY(0).
I prefer the later approach but that's just a mater of personal taste.
