Hello everybody,
We use output of WHO to get a pid for creating work files, etc.
Suddenly, our Windows 2003 is generating PID's at a high rate so that
it goes over 32,768 within a day after re-boot and then LISTU does not
match WHO, creating a problem. We understand there is a limit on UV
pid's and that UV does Mod(pid,32768) to get WHO. But why is Windows
suddenly generating PID's at a very high rate? IBM said it may be
related to print drivers so we updated all our drivers and still the
problem. Could we have caught a virus? Has anyone seen this sort of
thing? Thanks much.
George .
The "Virus" may be a windows update?!? Did this only start after a
batch of "Patch Tuesday" updates were installed?
(Equally important, do you actually have 32K PIDS runn ing on the
machine ??!
