Re: Flash compiled code - update

And to address the other issue, the QA departments for RD is us. As Tony
says, if we don't report the problems, they will not know about them.

The main advantage of flash is that it handles string manipulation much
more rapidly. So it does make a difference in some environments. With
browser based development (DesignBais), there is no need for the debugger
or Accuterm downloads, therefore flash compiling the code makes sense. In
a green screen development environment, the debugger is essential.

Since my last post, we have split our two products. The DesignBais
programs are flash compiled and the green screen programs are not. Already
we have a subroutine enhancement that has to be made twice due to this
division. So it goes.

Hi Jeff
Don't you think that all of these issues should have been found by RD?
Don't they flash and check their programs?

Personally I found that D3NT was plenty fast enough without it and I was
not going to muck around testing 1000 programs in the field, far too
dodgy.
At the time it came out I understood that the debugger was not available
in
Flash plus all code had to be flashed if anything was. I guess that
those
caveats have changed a bit but apparently not totally.

I definitely use the debugger extensively and I definitely care. However
as
I have said in previous posts I stick to plain vanilla. NT is vastly
more
reliable and supportable as an operating system than anything with an x
in
it so I use the D3 NT bits that work in the field. When a major new
issue
comes out I check again as I did with indices. Funnily enough I got
blasted
by Tony for expecting them to work after all this time and yes I did
report
it in the beginning and this time around. I doubt that it will get fixed
any time soon though since it hasn't been done after this many years.

Just as a matter of interest, how come it took you so long to find out?

Now I know what Tony means about reporting bugs to RD. How long has
flash
been available? Three years? Four years? More? No one has ever reported
four
of the six problems I reported yesterday. So what does that mean? 1)
very
few use flash, 2) very few use the debugger, 3) very few use Accuterm
uploads and downloads with flash, 4) very few care.
