Re: OpenQM vs. Everything Else

As you rightly say, Dawn, with dotnet - and with technologies such as Java,
the learning curves are so high that you can't really be an expert in both!

I would consider myself reasonably proficient with dotnet, but what I know
about Java can be written on the back of a small stamp with room to spare...

My last statement about 'mainstream' was that is implies compatibility.
If what a VAR or developer is offering to a prospective client isn't
compatible with what the client wants to do, then that VAR/developer
simply won't get the sale.

All I'm saying is that since most prospects are entrenched in Microsoft
in one way or another,

Most have MS desktops somewhere in the mix, but I think there are
plenty of VARs/developers who have requirements to think outside of the
M$ world for software development or at least would be well-served by
doing so.

it's logical that VARs/developers present
solutions that are compatible with Microsoft. Taking an anti-MS
approach with a client is entirely self-destructive.

I'm not anti-Microsoft, but I figure that I'm not going to do both .NET
and .NOT well, so I'm working the .NOT side. I am entirely open to
changing that approach if the need arises, however.

That's it in a
nutshell. Really - it's _not_ rocket science. ;)

In the past it hasn't been rocket science. I don't know if it has
gotten more complex or if my brain just doesn't work as well as it once
did, but I'm not finding it altogether easy, I must say. Cheers!
