My $.02, since you asked. I can elaborate my position on the below points
for anyone who is interested, but in a nutshell:
- Most software development is software maintenance, not new development.
- I think organizing a software development project depends on the size of
the project and the size of the team. And the budget.
- The programming as construction metaphor is both inapproriate and worn
out, IMHO.
- You cite the wisdom of Frank but also establish him as a wingnut. :-)
- You make a lot of specific statements about the validity of several
methodologies without either backing them up or even establishing your own
credentials.
- I'm not sure I understand the point of the "Rebirth of the Internet"
article. I see the broader use of web services as a means of utilizing the
business know-how, not the CPU cycles, at the other end. I do see
application hosting giving way to service publishing, but I don't see this
resulting in an unemployment spike for ASP/PHP/Perl developers. Perhaps I
am in need of clarification.
