Thanks so much for the info. I think CTFMON process was the culprit. So
far, so good.

If this is the case, I think this is the known problem with a conflict
with Microsoft CTFMON.EXE that you are seeing. It's installed with
Microsoft Office to enable multilanguage imput I think - you can read more
about it on Microsoft site and also instructions how to remove it. It's a
rather complicated task.
