When I enter the credentials in SQL Plus, it hangs. This happens both

Did you configure a tnsnames.ora file? Can you successfully use
tnsping to verify the listener status at the destination? The
ORA-12560 error is a generic error indicating a configuration problem
with the tnsnames.ora file (protocol adapter error). My guess is you
either do not have a tnsnames.ora file created or it's created
improperly.
