LD_LIBRARY_PATH=$ORACLE_HOME/lib
ORACLE_SID=ora8i
- /export/home/Disk1/runInstaller

You realize, of course, that 8i hasn't been supported in this
millenium, and even 9i will shortly be entering de-support.

What is your setting for ORACLE_HOME? Did you export these
variables?
