Re: Oracle on Windows

My experience is that the uninstall,
with Windows, often does not fully clean up the registry and
definitely does not fully clean up ORACLE_HOME.

This is true, but I can see we'll just have to agree to differ over
who's fault that is. The fact that thousands of other applications
manage it ok is proof enough for me though.

One problem with the registry is all of those damned CLSID's. While Oracle software is found in HKLM\Software\Oracle and my Lotus Notes is found in HKLM\Software\Lotus, it is very easy for the uninstall routine to clean those up if it chooses to do so. But how about the CLSID's? Those stick around forever unless you use a 3rd party app to find the delta's in the registry before and after the app was installed. And there are other remnants out there too. Not even Microsoft apps fully uninstall. But that is another issue in which they don't want you to uninstall IE or other apps.

Cheers,
Brian
