ORA 10G -ORA-12546 Error

Hi,

I have a strange problem:

Being logged in as standard user:(even root)(all members of oinstall group)

sqlplus scott/tiger@A works
sqlplus scott/tiger does not work and ends with ORA-12546:TNS permission denied.

Environment is:
Compaq proliant server
Suse 9.3 Pro Linux
Oracle 10G
ORACLE_SID set to 'A' in both cases

Being logged in as oracle works in both cases.

Have checked /tmp and /var/tmp permissions (777)

Have checked environment variables related to oracle: the only differences are
CLASSPATH and ORA_NLS which are defined when oracle and not as other user.

Changing ORACLE_HOME protections to 755 does not help.

Joining to dba/oracle group does not help.

I suppose it is some kind of file permission but have no idea.
