Your story makes no sense to me; a symlink is OK, but it links to your home directory!
So? I have a home/oracle/admin/<SID>/pfile directory, and the init file
lives there.
$ORACLE_HOME/dbs has a symlink to the file.
Might not be to everyone's taste, but it's worked fine in this
environment for years...
Yes, I am familiar with the setup, I have been
using it myself.
Point is, you *link* to $ORACLE_HOME/dbs (whatever
the value of $ORACLE_HOME, it is fixed).
So, if you have /u01/oracle/product/10.1 as one home,
and /u01/oracle/product/9.2 as another,
your simlink points to /u01/oracle/product/9.2/dbs/initSID.ora!
No matter how you change your $ORACLE_HOME value!
Or do I fail to see the obvious?
