Thanks for your replies, but maybe I didn't explain it well enough...

The Oracle 9i database on another machine hasn't changed.

The application hasn't changed.

When I installed the 8i ODBC driver in my local box the query runs
well.

When I install 9i ODBC driver on my local box the query is 'about' 5
time slower.

To my thinking it must be the local ODBC driver configuration.
I there some non-out-of-the-box configuration I would need to do.
