Could anyone tell me whether you have to install the complete Client (ver

I have an application that only requires the Oracle driver to communicate by
spreadsheet add-in

Depends exactly what it needs. If it's written specifically for Oracle it may
just need OCI - Oracle's native database client library. Or perhaps it needs
ODBC as well. You can do a custom install of the client to pick and choose
components.

If you're worrying about the footprint of the Oracle client, you might want to
look at Oracle Instant Client.
