JOB DESCRIPTION

AirClic, Inc. (http://www.airclic.com) is seeking an experienced junior to mid-level Oracle DBA to support multiple highly available transactional and data warehouse databases underpinning a 24x7 global web services application. Position responsibilities consist of both operational and application support primarily in a Red Hat Linux environment. Specific tasks include backup/recovery, proactive and reactive monitoring, problem identification and remediation, DB server tuning, query and application optimization and tuning, close interaction with and best practice guidance to Java developers. On-call support is required.
The qualified candidate must have a bachelor's degree, at least 2-3 yrs
on the job experience as an Oracle DBA in a Linux environment, a proven track record in managing and tuning highly available Oracle databases,
excellent communication, interpersonal and organizational skills. The
individual must be a self-starter, who can work independently, follow
through and complete tasks with a minimum of oversight.
Sun ONE Directory Server (LDAP) is a critical component of the AirClic system infrastructure. This position’s responsibilities include monitoring, support and some development of AirClic Directory Services.
AirClic provides services globally with very high availability and
performance. The primary responsibility of the DBA organization is to
ensure uninterrupted availability, superior performance and scalability
of Oracle and Directory Server databases.

***** PRIMARY ORACLE DBA RESPONSIBILITIES
*****************************************
* Design, monitor and proactively address issues to ensure uninterrupted availability
* Implementation, management and monitoring of Data Guard instances
* Develop/maintain Oracle Recovery Manager (RMAN) backup and
recovery processes including performing trial recovery from backups
* Troubleshoot and resolve database problems- act as the first line
of support on all problems that may occur specific to Oracle RDBMS
technology
* Provide on-call support for production databases; help identify
and resolve critical availability and performance problems
* Perform space monitoring and capacity planning/forecasting
* Routine monitoring of all databases to ensure acceptable
performance using Oracle Enterprise Manager or other tools
* Physical implementation (database creation) and performance tuning
* Refine physical designs for performance
* Development of standards
* Security management
* Participate in the implementation of system maintenance and
enhancements along with application developers and application DBAs
* Participate with application developers and application DBA to
identify and address performance problems
* Support iPlanet/Sun Directory Server (LDAP) databases
* Create and maintain DB test environments. Evaluate new features
with particular attention to those that would provide benefit to AirClic

* At least 2 years on the job experience as an ORACLE database
administrator
* Experience working in a highly available 24X7 database environment
* Experience with Oracle hosted on Red Hat Linux and Windows
* Experience with Red Hat or other Linux system administration
* Availability to support production databases on a 7x24 basis
* Experience in troubleshooting
* Effective judgment in prioritizing and time allocation
* Flexible, self-directed and motivated individual, able to
accommodate to shifting priorities
* Excellent communication/customer service skills. Ability to
understand others and clearly express thoughts

* 3-5 years experience as an ORACLE database administrator
* Hands-on experience implementing and supporting Oracle Real
Application Clusters (RAC) in a production environment
* Experience implementing and supporting iPlanet/Sun Directory
Server (LDAP) databases
* Experience implementing and supporting SQL Server databases
* Experience implementing data warehouses
* Working knowledge of software development and maintenance process
and tools
* Experience programming PL/SQL
* Experience with XML and Oracle XMLDB
* Demonstrated ability to provide deliverables and meet the
resource scope and schedule constraints of a project
* Experience following enterprise or best-practice data modeling
standards, naming conventions, user-defined domain modeling, and other
standards
* Experience working with very large databases
* Experience tuning individual SQL queries, database applications,
and optimizing databases for performance
* Experience supporting databases in a distributed n-tier
application environment
* Knowledge of application and database techniques to ensure
information security
* Experience migrating database objects from development through
test and into production environments
