Have you been bored to tears by PowerPoint marathons masquerading as training? The Puget Sound Oracle Users Group has decided to open its training facility (in Seattle Washington USA) to anyone, from anywhere, for any classes offered. Here are our current workshop offerings:
10gR2 RAC - Feb 9th and 10th ------------------------------------------------------ This is a hands-on class where every student gets their own server and, working with another student, builds a 2-node RAC cluster using RedHat 4 Update 2 with our new NetApp 270C. Class begins with wiring the three required networks, then we install and configure the operating system, Oracle clusterware, Oracle binaries, build the database, and run TAF (Transparent Application Failover) using a Java client against all clusters. Along the way you will get hand's on experience working with CRSTAT, Cluster Verify and other new 10R2 tools.
Day 2 of the class we turn the four two-node clusters into two four-node clusters learning how to add and drop nodes, cluster management, and how to find and translate the contents of the various log files (which they gratuitously moved yet again without documenting the change).
10gR2 Grid Control - Feb 16th and 17th ------------------------------------------------------ This is a hands-on class where students each get their own server and pair-off with one server used to host the OMR (Oracle Management Repository) and OMS (Oracle Management Server) and the other used to host a 10gR2 database and OMA (Oracle Management Agent). We start with each machine having only a clean operating system install and all other components are installed and configured from scratch.
Day 2 of the class we perform hands-on management of a very poorly tuned
database working with SQL Tuning Sets, ADDM, and work with the built-in
packages such as DBMS_ADVISOR, DBMS_MONITOR, DBMS_SERVER_ALERT, DBMS_SQLTUNE, DBMS_WORKLOAD_REPOSITORY that provide the Grid Control's
functionality.
10gR2 Advanced Queuing and Streams - Feb 23rd and 24th ------------------------------------------------------ This two class focuses on AQ the first day and Streams the second. Both days start with each student having their own server with operating system and database already installed. We review AQ and Streams concepts and build an AQ aware application that messages between schemas and between instances. During the class with do a thorough review of the security model and the DBMS_AQADM, DBMS_AQ, DBMS_AQELM, and DBMS_TRANSFORM built-in packages.
Day 2 we create each student builds replication for a schema in their
database to another student's server using the latest 10gR2 streams
technology. Built-in packages covered include DBMS_STREAMS_ADM, DBMS_STREAMS_AUTH, DBMS_STREAMS, DBMS_APPLY_ADM, DBMS_CAPTURE_ADM, DBMS_CDC_PUBLISH, and DBMS_CDC_SUBSCRIBE.
10gR2 RMAN - Backup and Recover - March 2nd and 3rd
------------------------------------------------------
This two day hand's on class is designed with two purposes in mind.
First to make sure that students are thoroughly exposed to RMAN concepts
and architecture, and second to hand's on run through diagnosing and
correcting the most common failure scenarios in a safe environment. Once
RMAN backups are complete ... we will drop or corrupt control files,
drop or corrupt log files, drop or corrupt tablespaces, and even do some damage to the system tablespace. If you would like an opportunity to
face each of these challenges outside your workspace ... this is the
place to do it.
10gR2 DataGuard - March 9th and 10th ------------------------------------------------------ This two day hand's on class starts with a review of Oracle's DataGuard technology after which students pair of, and working with their partner, recreate each of the DataGuard scenarious involving active and standby servers.
If interested in registering for one of these classes, or obtaining more information, contact Tiffany Syltebo with the Puget Sound Oracle Users Group at 877-672-2530 (toll free in the US) or for international calls 206-547-2332.
