I wonder if the forms, modules and reports potentially have redundant code
that has been deleted but is still there invisibly. This presumably doesn't
apply to queries or tables. Not sure what compacting does, but it obviously
removes something.
I believe when you delete files from a folder you just put a Hex FF in front
of the file name, and wonder if something similar is done with VB
statements.
On second thoughts when you compact a BE database (Tables only), it often
gets smaller, but there you must be doing something with deleted records.
Wish I'd never started this topic now
BTW I use the Compact on Close option, probably should't but have had no
problems. Is this an Access Compact or DBEngine compact, and if the former,
how do you do the DBEngine Compact of the current database as opposed to the
BE database?

You're right. Shouldn't have doubted you.
Odd though, with Forms Reports & Modules the dates are changed, but not
tables or queries. Any idea of the logic of that
Phil
No idea.
I guess that the cause is that Forms, Reports & Modules are Access Objects
while Tables are Jet or Ace Objects.
It might be interesting to compare a DBEngine compact with an Access
compact. My guess is that the Forms, Reports & Modules dates will not be
changed with the DBEngine compact, but it's !!!just!!! a guess.
