Two laudable moves by Microsoft:

"Saying how are we doing with the open-source community is high-level
and not an informative question to answer. [Microsoft's interactions
with] the Samba and PHP groups are examples of how we build trust over
time. We expect to be judged on our actions."

Note: The figure in the actual title of the article is 2.25 billion
per year.

Sometimes there is a distinction between "ready to spend," "actually
spent," and "how much we can convince the public we've spent." Still,
the goal is commendable.

From his photo, Mr. Ballmer seems to get more sleep and better
nutrition than I do. I tend to eat lots of health foods, but my
mother warned me about eating health food exclusively, stating that I
should eat a little junk food now and then. Although the secret to my
success early in life was lots of sleep, I seem to have strayed from
that ideal lately. I warned one woman that I had a Type A
personality. She said not to worry because she had a Type A+
personality and that I should try to keep up :-).
