Re: Access programming guru needed

Be cautious of responses to requests for paid work in the newsgroups. There
are a few who have proven to experienced developers here by the content of
their posts here that they are not competent, but are perfectly happy to
take your money, anyway. The best way to get paid help is to be familiar
with posts and responses so that you know which responders "know what they
are talking about", and, if they provide contact information (not all of us
do, you know), check their website and, then, only if the website indicates
they do contract work, contact them directly by e-mail. It's not
necessarily a good idea to "size" the project... experienced developers have
heard 'way too many overly-optimistic estimates (someone hoping beyond hope
that they will 'set a limit') to put much credence in them.

Oh, how many times we have heard from someone with a project, or some
recruiter, "It's 90% done, just finish it, and add a few reports -- no more
than a couple of [days | weeks] to complete." And, then, on examination, we
find that the project needs to be started over from scratch. Most of us have
learned just not to take on such projects.

And, as has been said, you might well be able to get the help you need, for
free, in the newsgroup. If it's truly only a couple of hours' work, then it
may be small enough that people here can help you over the stumbling blocks.

Start by describing what your business needs are, then what data you have,
or to which you have access, in what form. The questions that get the best
answers are precise and concise. Other good suggestions on effective use of
newsgroups can be found in the FAQ at
http://www.mvps.org/access/netiquette.htm.
