Is there a way to determine which xyz.mdb made the xyz.mde?

Negative.

Unless you build some type of code "Revision" into each MDB to be display on
a for or report in the MDE. All my MDBs contain a local revision table
listing a revision number and description of the revision, this number is
displayed in the startup form.

Of course this will not help with older MDE that do not contain a revision
table.
