Hi Dave,

Merging RW and SQL ... Dude, we only have a day and a half...!

Still, it's an idea.

On the other hand, there are loads of open source query tools out there.
Does anyone have a favorite that almost-but-doesn't-quite work with
Ingres? That might be a good day and a half project.

Roy,

Although I'm not fortunate enough to attend the Sprint, I do have a
favorite query tool I've been using since 2002.

Here is my situation. Every day I work with Ingres, Oracle, SQL Server,
Postgres, Firebird, and MySQL.

I'm familiar with the distributed tools of all these databases, and indeed
I manage all these databases on a daily basis.

The query tool I use is DbVisualizer, made by Minq Software out of Stockholm.

Ingres is NOT listed on their compatible databases and JDBC driver pages:

http://minq.se/products/dbvis/doc/databases.jsp
http://minq.se/products/dbvis/doc/drivers.jsp

It works fairly well with Ingres, but not as well as it does with Oracle. They
have a published plug-in management interface. This is evident when you access
Oracle and you get all sorts of shiny options to create and manage users, schemas,
tables, storage, etc. SQL Server has the same.

It is NOT open source, but it has a "free" edition that is missing some very
nice DBA-friendly import/export and table editing features. I believe the
paid edition is worth the price. And many of my clients manage nicely with the
free edition.

Lastly, I have NO affiliation with Minq Software besides being a long- time happy
customer.
