Hi Tyler,
New Itainum chips seem the bee's-knee's however very
"spendy". Nice to see AMD may have a viable option.
If you want to future-proof your investment in "commodity" Linux DO NOT
buy Itanic (glug, glug, glug, ....)
Go for Opterons or the latest Xeons as they are very close in terms of
64-bit compatibility.
May have to "eval" a Xeon or AMD box with SUSE and install
the NTPL vs. of Ingres. Throw 50-60 gig of data at it and see
how she runs.
Sun are usually very helpful with their 60 day free trials.

Why not give their X4200 server a go?
