RE: [Info-ingres] Transaction log size (was Huge copy out/in)

Thanks Peter,

Would anyone know how high the log block count can go ?
Can it reach into the millions ?

If the block count has the same problem as the transaction
begin/ends fields, it can't go beyond 99 million (8 digits).
After 99 million, it then starts displaying 10 million instead
of 100 million (drops the last digit).

Hi Andre,

The block size cannot be any bigger than 32k according to cbf.

Hi Karl,

I'd like to increase the transaction log to approx 40-50 GB.

My current log is 1.8GB with 16K block size and 80 log buffers.
What's considered a larger block size ? 32K or 64K ?

I assumed 16K was relatively large as most systems I've seen have 4K.

I've seen 96 Gb, but you have to increase the log blocksize or some
of the block counts overflow and horrible things happen. For larger
block sizes you might be able to beat 96 Gb, I haven't done the math.
If logstat -header doesn't show any negatives you should be OK.

*Warning* I assume you are NOT talking about a single transaction.
Except for the most recent Ingres 2006's, if a single transaction
uses or reserves more than 4 Gb you are in deep trouble because of
overflow on the logspace reservation counters.
