Up until now I was able to access my client's ABF/4GL app from my own SCO
box but now it (the hardware) is dying and I am trying to use my SuSE
Linux box as a client but running into difficulties trying to find the
right combo of TERM and TERM_INGRES entries to make box drawing characters
and functions keys work. When using one SCO system s client over telnet,
everything was fine using TERM=ansi and TERM_INGRES=ansif. Using SuSE as
client, this does not work at all (i.e., I cannot navigate at all). If I
change TERM_INGRES to ansi, I lose function keys and box drawing
characters but can navigate using the tab and escape keys.
Any suggestions here?
(I have asked a similar question before but that was accessing ABF running
on the same Linux box using the Linux character (or xterm) screens.)
Are you using a xterm or similar to run your telnet from?
This doc (http://www.writely.com/Doc.aspx?id=afzv34f7znps)
describes how to set up the termcap file and map file to define a
TERM_INGRES setting that'll work in xterm, Konsole and Gnome Terminal.
This needs to be done on the SCO machine. AFAIR there's nothing in
there that won't work in 2.0. By default the function keys are
probably different to what your users are used to but you could change
that.
Alternatively you can get Putty for Linux (you can either compile it
yourself, or there are RPMs out there if you look) and use that with
ansif. There are a couple of settings you need -
under Terminal, Keyboard choose Control-H for backspace
also choose SCO for "Function keys and keypad"
If you're using console mode then TERM=vt100, TERM_INGRES=vt100fnl
should work, although that's using so-called 'poor-man's line-drawing'
