single, popular recommendation has emerged. I shall have to do some trials.
(I should have mentioned that finding something that merely works is only my
first requirement; I also need something that installs with little or no
manual screwing about, without an Internet connection, and can legitimately
be used for free. Who'd have thought it would be so hard? It's just a C
compiler for goodness sake!)
(mind, that might not fall into your "require internet connection" requirement.)
