Hi,
With regards to installing ingres patches on windows I've had the same
issues but have resolved by doing the following :
- Make sure IVM is not running
- Make sure no ingres processes are running
- Shutdown the following services:
IIS
WMI
COM+
SNMP
The only one I couldn't get round recently was the slow_v4.mnx being
accessed by another program. I chose to ignore that warning and
everything was fine. The slow_v4.mnx file is read by IVM which was
shutdown so I didn't see it as a problem. The only other thing that I
could think of that was accessing this file was the ingres performance
counters. With this being the only problem the patch installed ok with
no reported issues.
The patching we've done is on Advantage Ingres 2.6 running windows 2000
server...we're at patch level 10797
Hope this helps...
Best Regards

Can anyone confirm if this happens in R3?

Hi Justin,
I never did get to the bottom of it. The problem is not restricted to
Terminal server. It also happens on Win2K and WinXP occasionally. It
happened all the way back to Windows NT. I'm pretty sure it is in ingres
net somewhere. I've seen the problem particularly under this
circumstance:
OpenROAD sp1, OpenROAD sp2, Ingres 26sp2 net, OR patch. Then when
trying to upgrade to OpenROAD sp3 the errors display during the net
installation. Accidentally we found that pressing cancel allowed the OR
upgrade to proceed and the client seems stable.
I'm not a windows expert but I think that if the ingres service is
listed as automatic or manual the O/S loads the dlls - something about
"pre-fetch" - I'm not sure. Here's my formula for these sorts of cases:
Remove ivm from start up menu. (from all users) Stop OpenROAD appserver
and disable Stop ingres net services and set status to "disabled"
Reboot. Ensure no users log in until you are done.
Apply the patch.
If you get the error during an ingres dbms upgrade the results are bad.
Follow the steps below, then re-install everything from scratch.
By the way, I have been able to install/upgrade on a live terminal
server even when there were other sessions running. But if ivm had been
loaded at any time I think you will need to reboot first.

Did you ever find the solution to this? I'm having the exact same
problem. Thanks.
