Re: IDS 11 - Press Releases

Classic, truly classic.

Interesting to see that IDS was discounted at the end:

"Will IDS ever outshine DB2? Not bloody likely. Will it ever regain its ranking as one of the three major databases in the world? That would be a certain 'no,'" wrote Kernochan. "But can it still offer performance for certain transaction patterns, and thereby make the database a little less of a boat anchor? Yes, indeed."

Great article, looks like IDS is expected to compete against Oracle, and be a buddy with DB2, but discounted upfront as not in the same league, even with the new features.

Today there have been several new press releases about IDS 11.1
(Cheetah) published.
For those interested, here is a compilation of the press releases that
I've discovered:

Thanks. The computerworld.com article is the most interesting.

If I'm allowed a few comments...:
- What did IDS get it's name, customer loyalty etc...? Not the press releases I think...
- We've been enjoying an opportunity we never had: to test a next release
- Cheetah is loaded with features that really make a difference...
- There are plans in place for more
- Support is really working to improve customer experience. I never saw nothing like what's going on in the intranet. Just today I was sending a colleague some links (most of them external) with lot's of information... He just kept saying "wow... where did you get all this?". The answer is: These guys are producing info like never before :)

So... my point: who really cares about press-releases? I have a very limited and very local visibility over customers, but I'd bet most of them wouldn't read this even if I sent it to them. On the other hand when I send them the papers about MACH 11, LBAC, RTO etc. they tell me: Great! That's what I was looking for!

Regards.
