IBM does this with DB2 Express-C. Why not a similar version for IDS?

Because IDS isn't DB2 or Oracle? ;-)

Seriously, its like asking to testdrive a Ferrari but you can only keep it in first gear, and there's a throttle lock/govenor so you can't go faster than 15mph / 25kph.
