Or am I just an optimist?
cc: from Informix-forum
IBM has finally 'gotten it' about IDS. They're still not sure what to
do with
it, but from my discussions with those in positions to guide such
decisions they
are willing to push where ever they can find a possible niche for IDS
to fill.
Current efforts are centered around:
OLTP - vis IBM's new mantra that IDS is the 'Premier Data Server for
online
transaction processing' providing 'blazing online processing
capabilities'.
Integration - New wording to replace 'embedded' to which we all
objected.
Pushing IDS as the engine of choice for developing turnkey systems
both
internally and for productization. This is both a push for internal
corporate
development projects and a return to Informix's roots in the 3rd party
software
market. Efforts to recover and support existing and former 3rd party
suppliers
like SAP, PeopleSoft, etc. are also being increased (though this last
needs
customer backing as well).
Datablades - IBM is realizing the potential marketing and development
power of
the existing datablades (the new free text and geographic blades, the
node
blade, timeseries, etc.) and as a feature for customers to use to
improve their
own projects.
