This is yet another HUGE problem in quality we are seeing in IDS 10.0
later releases. I think Neil Truby first made note of assertions on
IDS 10 here on CDI way back. I also just heard of a client that moved
to 10.0 and had so many issues, that they ported back to, get this, IDS
7.31.
Neil, is your bug fixed yet?
The sporadic assert failure bug that my customer is still experiencing in
10.0xC3 was said to be fixed in some patched versions of xC3 and in xC4 (I
say "said to be" as you can't by definiton systematically reproduce a
sporadic bug, but I've certainly not encountered it in any later release),
but in these later releases other things worse than the original problem
were introduced, or re-intorduced. 10.0FC4W3 seems to be very stable
though, and the customer is moving to that at the end of the World Cup
(being a TV company it's a busy time for them now).
Have you talked to your IBM Account Manager?
You should remember, David, that you work for a major US/global bank, and
your experiences may be coloured by the special attention you get. All but
the very biggest IBM customers do not necessarily have a field-based IBM
account manager, and although there will be an office-based person somewhere
with responsibility for even the smallest, this person is unlikely to be a
specialist in databases (or even in software), and probably will not know
much about Informix. That is not to say that this route should not work,
but it probably isn't as easy for most users as it is for you to identify
and contact the right person.
