so I run

F:\Program Files\IBM\Informix>onstat -
Your evaluation license will expire on 2006-02-02 00:00:00
shared memory not initialized for INFORMIXSERVER 'ol_davidw5'

then I run set IFX_NO_TIMELIMIT_WARNING=1 and...

F:\Program Files\IBM\Informix>onstat -
shared memory not initialized for INFORMIXSERVER 'ol_davidw5'

no warning any more.. but does is it still time limited?

Or is this a way around the time limit?

Just a way around the warning itself.  The software is still time-limited.
