Get(RecordNumber) already, please!!!

In Advanced 10.0v1 Get(RecordNumber) is supposed to return this:

"The value returned is determined by the relative place of the record
in the found set, and it changes depending on the find criteria and
the sort order."

Yeah, right. Checked what I got instead against Get(RecordID) and
found that Get(RecordNumber) = Get(RecordID) for every record in my
sorted found set.

Based on an Aug. 2007 post I tried removing all indexing on all fields
in the table but that produced the same junky result.

Thought maybe this statement in the Help might lend a clue, but I
don't think it does:

"If you specify the context for the current calculation, this function
will be evaluated based on that context; otherwise, it will be
evaluated based on the context of the current window."

Thanks FileMaker for yet another of those time-wasting investigations
I've become so accustomed to, into the strange vagaries of a product
that used to work okay about 12 or 13 years ago and kept getting
suckier and suckier as time went on.

You know, I don't even care what it is I'm missing here - surely
something - but the mere fact I'm missing whatever it is, is way more
a sad reflection on the usefulness of the product than it is on my
ability to use it.

That said, I'll gladly accept anyone's explanation of what I'm
missing, with thanks in advance, so I can get those record numbers
instead of their ID's.
