By that I mean that one of the fields in my database (and only one)
gives the following message when I input search words I know to exist
in Find Mode: "No records match this set of find requests." It's not a
spelling error. The field type is a drop-down text box with limited
choices; and hundreds of records have the same field designation...
But no matter what I search for, nothing is found. Likewise, there is
no constraint on the data set if I do a search using the Omit
function.

Please help!

One possibility is that it's the wrong field - this can especially
happen when using different Layouts.

For example, if you have entered all the data on the DataEntry Layout
using FieldA set to use a pop-menu Value List, but the FindRecords
Layout has FieldB set to use the same Value List for it's pop-up menu.
Check that it is indeed the correct field.

Also, if you've imported the data from elsewhere (or someone has
changed the Value List) it's possible that the actual data in the field
doesn't match the pop-up menu's values. Try changing the field to be a
normal field and performing the Find by typing in the data, or by
copying the data from one record before entering Find mode so that you
know it does match.

Another possibility is that there are actually two fields positioned
one above the other in that place on the Layout - the one you see
containing the data is at the top of the pile, but set to not allow
user entry and below it is a second field. When the user clicks in that
position the top field is ignored and the second field "activated". Try
moving the field on the Layout (also try Ungrouping it and then
unselecting it and then moving it).
